People Ask Us What the Work Actually Looks Like, Day to Day
“What is it like to work at 5W&Co in Cleveland?” The honest answer depends on which team you’re on. Some of our people spend the day in the field, meeting customers face to face. Some are on the phone and in interviews, finding the right candidates. Some are in front of a room at a client’s business, teaching. And some are building the campaigns and content that keep brands visible online. What every role shares is how the day begins: with scheduled time to learn and get better. Here’s what a typical day looks like across all four of our services: sales, recruitment strategy and talent scouting, leadership development and sales workshops, and digital marketing and brand representation.
This is the next installment in our People Ask Us series. Last time, we covered how 5W&Co finds great talent. This time, we’ll show you what the work looks like once you’re in it.
Where Every Day Starts: Development First
Every weekday starts the same way for every position at 5W&Co: 90 minutes of instruction and development over Zoom, beginning at 11:00 AM. It’s not a status update to get through before the real work begins. It is the real work. Development can also happen before work, after work, or both, alongside the job itself, not instead of it. The point is simple: nobody walks into their day less prepared than they were the day before.
A Day in Sales
For the sales team, the day begins with rehearsal, skill development, and instructional classes. Then they head out to meet with customers and clients. Those conversations happen across many different settings: businesses, residences, stores, events, shows, roadshows, and sporting arenas. 5W&Co works across all of these platforms. Some conversations last thirty seconds. Some turn into real relationships. Of the four roles, this is the one that spends the most time on its feet and out of the office.
A Day in Recruitment Strategy and Talent Scouting
Our recruiting team runs on phones and the calendar. A typical day means finding and qualifying candidates, speaking with them by phone, learning what they’re actually looking for, and conducting interviews. It’s the talent acquisition side of the business, and it works in two directions: connecting the strongest candidates with the companies 5W&Co recruits for, and finding the people who help 5W&Co itself keep growing. The work happens remotely, but it’s still people-first. Every call is a conversation about someone’s next step.
A Day in Leadership Development and Sales Workshops
This team develops first, then delivers. They take part in their own development sessions, then meet with clients at their businesses to lead sales workshops or leadership development classes. The day moves between preparation and delivery: sharpening the material, then standing in front of a client’s team and making it land. It’s part classroom, part client service, and it only works when the team practices what it teaches.

A Day in Digital Marketing and Brand Representation
The digital marketing team works remotely, and its work lives on the screen: creating content, managing weekly social media, designing brand essentials like logos and business cards, and making sure clients are represented consistently everywhere their customers find them online. Brand representation is about more than posting. It’s about making sure how a business shows up online matches who it actually is. Deadlines are steady, and the results show up wherever customers go looking.
What the Hard Part Is
Every role has its own hard part, and it’s worth naming all of them. In sales, you’re on your feet, moving through different settings in a single day, and rejection comes with the job whether anyone says so out loud or not. In recruitment, it’s staying persistent through calls that don’t connect and candidates who aren’t the right fit. In leadership development and sales workshops, it’s travel to client businesses and being ready to lead a room of professionals with confidence, every time. In digital marketing and brand representation, it’s steady screen time, deadlines, and pushing through campaigns that don’t land right away. None of it is for everyone, and that’s exactly why it’s worth saying here instead of leaving someone to discover it on their own.
Who This Fits, and Who It Does Not
This works for people who want real ownership over their day, whether that means meeting customers face to face, working the phones to find the right candidate, coaching a room through a new skill, or building the campaigns that keep a brand visible. It also works for people who can take a “no,” a stalled deal, or a slow week without it wrecking their day. It’s a harder fit for someone who wants a predictable, low-accountability role with no real feedback loop, good or bad. Neither one is a character flaw. It’s just worth knowing which one you are before you start.
Underneath all four roles is the same idea: growth is scheduled, not incidental. Whatever team someone is on, they get ongoing, practical experience in their own area of expertise while doing the actual job, not waiting on a training week that never comes.
